Parasite (English subtitles)

PARASITE won four Academy Awards at the Oscars February 10, including a history-making best picture win. It is the first non-English language film to take the top prize.

Kim Ki-taek, his wife and his two grown-up children live in loathsome conditions. The family economy is at an absolute low, as their main income stems from folding pizza boxes while stealing wi-fi from nearby cafeterias. Then Ki-taek’s son Ki-woo gets a lucky break: A chance to be an English tutor for the young daughter of the rich Park couple. Ki-woo excels as a teacher and soon tries to get also his parents and sister employed with the wealthy Parks. However, things are not quite like they seem in the Park’s grand villa.

The multiple Oscar and Palme d’Or winner is at first glance a dark thriller comedy about a family of lovable rogues, but PARASITE also offers a satirical take on class struggle and economic failings. It has already received praise as one of the best and most original films from the last decade.
